About Alex

Alex Streightiff, born in Des Moines, Iowa, has lived in Lake Bluff, Illinois most of his life and is currently a senior (2016) at Lake Forest High School (LFHS).

Alex’s athletic career began on the baseball field, where he pitched and played first base for Lake Bluff’s youth travel team. In the winter of his freshman year of high school, Alex changed his path and tried out for the dive team. A natural acrobat (Alex had always enjoyed jumping on the backyard trampoline with his two brothers), he took to diving immediately. Encouraged by LFHS dive coach Pam Uhrik, Alex earned his varsity letter that first season and was named LFHS Diving Most Improved Athlete.

Following his freshman season, Alex joined the Chicago Dive Club. Benefitting from the coaching of Alik Sarkisian and Pat Noyes (Michigan Diving), Alex continued to improve and – as a sophomore and junior – was awarded LFHS Diving Most Valuable Athlete, and in 2014-2015 earned All-America status.

Alex has enjoyed an exciting diving journey that has – so far – included  competing in the 2015 Synchro Nationals in Greensboro and 2015 AT&T Nationals Championships in Orlando in senior men 1m (both coached by Susan Bromberg of Windy City Diving) as well as 16-18 1m and 3m events, two trips to IHSA state meets (4th place 2015), a trip to the Age Group Nationals in Knoxville, as well as participation in a variety of summer dive camps, interscholastic meets (Lake Forest and Vernon Hills pool records), club meets, and the North Suburban Leadership Conference. Senior year, Alex looks forward to training at Windy City Diving at UIC with Susan Bromberg and leading his high school team as a co-captain.

Alex’s favorite school subjects are math and science; his senior year classes will include college prep Calculus and AP Computer Science. When he’s not diving or studying, Alex can be found on his snowboard or wakeboard, attending his church youth group, working at his family’s business or volunteering with Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association and Feed My Starving Children.

Alex made the honor roll both semesters of junior year and has a  cumulative GPA of 4.25.  His ACT score is 25, which includes a 31 sub-score in math. Lake Forest High School does not rank.

Alex is undecided on his field of study in college, but is considering Information Technology and Industrial Engineering as possibilities.
